Joe,
Thanks a bunch.  Fault Diagnosis on the 70 MK3 
is complete and it is exactly as you said. I feel a whole lot better although 
the gearbox needs to be in the car and not on the bench.  Still have to pull 
the Tilton and Fidanza Flywheel out and get the hole machined.  This will only 
be the third time out and in so that's not real bad.
