AFAIK, all MkIV US-spec Spitfires for 1971 had the 3.89:1 diff, as did all
US-spec 1500s from 1973 on. The 1972 US-spec Spitfire MkIV had a 4.11:1 diff
regardless.

Unlike some GT6 and TR models, the diff. ratio did not change with the
addition of OD to a Spitfire at the factory.

BTW, the serial number of the diff. will indicate the original ratio (which
could have been changed, of course).
