Hi George,
As far as UK Spitfires go, early 1500s had a water pump with a fixed fan,
later ones had the viscous coupled fan - I assume it's the later type you have
which leaves the protrusion. I won't pretend to know all the unique features of
the US spec Spitfires, but if ask for part number GWP128, any Triumph
specialist should recognise that as the 1500 water pump which accepts the fixed
fan. Price from people like ourselves in the UK will be about 30 UKP plus
postage, but don't doubt that it will be more economical to purchase from a US
vendor.
You mention the need to recore your radiator - which pattern is fitted to
your Spitfire? UK spec 1500s had an inadequate 15 inch unit compared to the 21
inch fitted to the Mk1 and Mk2. I know there were differences with some US cars
having a slanted design which was not used in the UK. I would suggest that
upgrading to the larger radiator would be the best single investment if your
car isn't already equipped with one.
Cheers,
Bill.
