Hi James,
Sorry - when I said regulator, I should have said stabiliser. It's a small
device fitted somewhere around the back of the speedo. It's some time since I
took apart a Spitfire so I can't remember the exact location. The voltage is
stabilised (regulated, hence my wrong wording) to 10 volts, which is what the
fuel and temperature gauges require.

The 3-rail has an extension housing which contains a number of plastic bushes
and washers. They fall apart as they wear, but a rebuild kit for this is easily
available for around 15.00 pounds.
