I'm going through the same thing w/ my '64. As I understand it, '71-'80
spits all had the same differential with two ratios available: 3.89:1 and
3.63:1. You just need to know which one you need.
I think you're in better shape than I as the MK 4 & 1500's are more
prevalent than the MK I/II/III. Early diffs have a smaller drive shaft and
axle shaft flanges, so it's important to get the right one. When I checked
w/ Ted at TS Imported earlier this week, he had one in the yard for $250
plus shipping. Also, I think there are a couple being auctioned on e-bay
right now.
Good luck
Chris

Subject: Mk IV Spitfire Diff Inerchange?
Hi,
It sounds like the diff on my Mk IV Spitfire is dying. Getting a
replacement might be a problem. Does anyone what will interchange - other
models of Spitfires, Heralds, Toledos?
