I think it's just yours, James. But you're right. I
agree, they are cheep. Especially for what they cost.
The best carb balancers are liquid or mercury filled
for stability. You can find them in street bike
catalogs. They tend to have 2 or 4 dial gauges on
them, so you don't have to move back and forth between
carbs. 
They don't go on the carb throat, but off of a vacuum
tube from the carb. So, IF you have vacuum tubes on
both/all of your carbs, you can hook the balancer
gauges up without removing your air filters. And
because there are multiple gauges, there is no back
and forth. BUT the carbs have the vacuum tubes,
otherwise you can't use them.
The regular non-liquid filled dial gauges run about
$30-$40. The mercury ones can run upto and over $100.

But for the price ($25?) and compactness, the unisyn
unit works well. This assuming of course, you don't
get a defective one.
