Gary,
You may have gotten a bad release bearing, but I'll throw this out.
Check the crankshaft end float. the squealing noise you hear may be the
crank riding against the block with no thrust washer.i.e.: they fell out.
It's easy enough to tell, there will be about .25-.5" of end float without
the bearings.
The other problem may be the bushing between the input shaft and the main
shaft.that seems to be a weak spot on the spitfire transmissions.
