I asked the same question a few months back.  Apparently the simple answer
is no.  The prop shaft is shorter I believe, and the flywheel and clutch are
differant as well.
I ended up rebuilding mine.  It was not nearly as easy as I had hoped but I
did make it through and it seems to work ok.

I need to replace the clutch in my newly acquired Mk I and since the
current 3 rail tranny has sloppy shifting, whining, no 1st gear
synchros, etc., I was wondering if I could just bolt on my spare
single-rail transmission instead.  Is it a straight swap or are there
clearance/drive shaft issues?
