Hi Liv... have examined that route myself.
Yep, not much space between the ragtop frame
and seat back for a rollbar. Plus...they limit seat
recline/position.

My most likely route....   consider the design in reverse
of the normal pics of Spit roll bars you see.  Instead of the
little legs that stick back from the main hoop to the wheel arches....
turn it around. The main hoop runs up the 'back'... and the little
legs point down behind the Miata seats.  Maybe a bit of 'curvy'
bending of the main hoop bar...could look pretty wild.

I've been considering dung what the Porsche 914 uses...
a flat 'box' metal or heavy band....as the main roll bar with
secondary supports as required.
