We used to do the Rusty Jones (I think) at the dealership I worked at.
Nothing more then Rustoleum rusty metal primer sprayed into various
corners to impress the customer. Overspray onto the hood hinges was
considered crucial for impressing the customers.
Where drilling of the body was done, nothing was put onto the now bare
steel of the edges of the holes. Rubber plugs were usually put in, but
those don't repel water.
The work was done on a very slip-shod basis. The wand goes into the
rocker, and a spritz of stuff gets sprayed. Some guys would try to
actually coat things in there, other guys didn't care.

This little spitfire has been Ziebarted from new. I understand it is
a rust proofing (really?) thing, and that it is good that it was done
from new... Any "hands-on" experience with the process?
