You should have a screen built into the oil pan- this is what the Heralds
have. It encloses the top of the sump, so large pieces are trapped before
they get to the lower level. (Although I would prefer a regular screen on a
floating pickup- you can't drop below the level of the tube that way, should
you be oil level deficient) The oil pickup tube goes through a grommetted
hole ion it.
