Hi all,
I'm looking for some advice on a sound coming from the rear of our 78
Spitfire. This car was an off the from restoration, which we purchased in
PA, and had delivered to MA. WE test drove it in PA with the top down, and
noticed no unusual noises. Driving it in MA, we hear a clicking/clacking
type noise from the rear. As you accelarate, it goes away, and is much more
noticable while coasting. The speed of this noise goes faster and slower as
the cars speeds up and slows down. A local spitfire buff suggested perhaps u
joints. Come to find out, all of those parts are brand new. Brought it to a
highly respected sports car garage, and they suspect CV joint, transfering
noise down hollow drive shaft to back of car. They will be looking at it
more carefully in a week. Any thoughts? Car has 49,000 real miles on it.
Apparently there is no longer made driveshaft, cv joint issues.
Also, pollution air pump makes noise till car warms up. Sports car garage
says it was lubricated with teflon bushings, that wore out after about 100
miles on car! He spayed some lubricant on pump, adn noise immediately
disapperaed. Do I replace this pump? Garage says they never really did much
to help pollution, but made US EPA happy cause it was there!!! I would
apreciate any thougts from you experts. I am new to this.
