My experience too. I've recently finished working on my 1500 bonnet.
I started out replacing the inner headlamp panels because of rot. I
uncovered several stress cracks at the front cross member, and of
course, at the 90 degree notch where the headlamp bezel bolts on.
Rather than just weld them up I made small reinforcing patches at the
trouble spots. I also made reinforcements at the bonnet latches. It
took months to cobble all the little bits. I've taken photos but so
far no webpage...RealSoonNow. :-)
On it's maiden voyage I was amazed at the difference in the car. No
more scuttle-shake. It feels like an MGB now. <G>
Cheers!
