As far as I know, this is legal. Once you've removed the existing
numberplate, you will be able to point to the grill and explain to the
nice policeman that you couldn't possibly put a numberplate there, as
that is where the air comes in to help cool the rad...
We've all seen Spits with stick-on numberplates, so some owners get away
with it. Personally, I don't think they look right on Spits, though.
E-types and Mini Coopers, yes, but not Spitfires.
