Subject: Windscreen and B post Cap goop?

Everyone,
I was wondering what exactly was/is the goop that is placed
under the windscreen and B posts caps on a Spitfire. I removed both to
do some minor rust repairs and found a caulk like substance there. I
haven't checked my manuals yet but is this Seelastik (sp)? Is there an
appropriate substitute, like plumbers putty, or am I altogether wrong?

Thanks,
Sean

I am about to do the same with my windscreen and I picked up some black
window mastic at Home Depot for $5. It does not seem to be as pliable
and sticky as the old stuff that was there. I imagine with some heat it
may soften but ?? Joe, how pliable is the stuff that you have used
relative to what was there?
