Well it's getting closer, hotel's booked and I just have to find some nice
cheap flights now but Guy & I are both very much looking forward to the
trip. It'll be particularly special as I'll be celebrating my birthday that
weekend as well as something else. On our recent trip to Scotland Guy asked
me to marry him and I was very happy to say yes. We're now making plans for
a wedding next summer (carefully trying to time it between car shows!) and
next week I'm moving up to Wiltshire to make a new home for myself, 4 cats
and Baby Blue, with him, Sadie the dog and several cars as well as a couple
of garagefuls of spare parts.
Our plans are to fly out on 17th or 18th October then, after Triumphest,
spend a few days travelling around California before heading back to Blighty
the following weekend. We'd love to meet as many listers a possible, at the
show or afterwards on our travels, so please do let me know any suggestions
of where we should think about heading to in order to meet up with a many as
possible of you on this trip.
Next question. With having to leave all the cars behind (Baby Blue and Guy's
5 Bonds, Gilbern Invader and 1950 80" landrover) I figured we're both going
to be having withdrawal symptoms if we have to resort to a modern vehicle
for the whole trip so does anyone know of a company in or around LA who
hires out classics of any description, rent-a-wrecks are fine by us, less to
worry about when facing Californian drivers but I can vouch that Guy (who's
likely to be doing most of the driving) is a very good driver and I believe
he can deal with anything.
Alternately, I did just wonder if any lister in the area just happened to
have too many cars to be able to get them all to Ventura and would be
prepared for us to borrow one for that weekend to deliver to the show. That
would just make the event so special for us, and it would allow them to show
off more than just one car. I realise this is a big favour to ask as I know
how much my own car means to me, but I figured it didn't hurt any to at
least ask the question.
And finally...
Baby Blue is soon to have company in the garage - at the Callender Classics
show in Scotland I had a minor brain fever (pre- marriage proposal - and he
still asked me!) and bought myself a motorbike - not a Triumph but just as
good, a 1956 BSA M21 with a Watsonian sidecar (pic at
http://triumphsouth.20m.com/photo_misc.html) I just couldn't resist it, it
looked so cute - now all I have to do is learn to ride it!
