Here's something that might help to solve the DOT 5 debate once and for all
(yeah, right!). Has anyone on this list converted to DOT 5, then decided to
convert back to DOT 4 for any reason? I've yet to hear of someone doing this.
If you did, why?

I did. Unlike Joe, I found that under repeated hard braking, the brakes
tended to go very soft. Like no brakes at all. This in spite of repeated
bleeding. I decided that I didn't like the feeling of not having any
brake pedal, so cleaned the system and went back to DOT 4. This was
about 16 or 17 years ago.

I check my brake reservoir often, and am very careful when I top up the
master cylinders.
