You can remove the gearbox from the inside, it will be much easier if
you take out the seats and the help of a second pair of arms. The
overdrive (OD) unit will need a different mounting plate, mount and a
shorter OD drive shaft. Once you have the parts, it is just a bolt
on excerise.
As to the type of oil, there has been lots of dicussions about it.
The thing to watch for is to make sure the oil you use does not
corrode the brass gears in the gearbox. But most people seems to
agreed that Redline GL5 synthetic with friction modifiers will
work well in our gearbox.
