Hi Brett,

The electric chokes on the DGV are fairly simple. There is a wire that connects
to 12V switched connection that is on when the ignition is on. When the ignition
is turned on, a small heater element inside the choke warms up a bi-metal coil.
As the coil heats up, it turns a shaft that connects to the choke. The choke
plates are closed when the choke is cold and they begin to open up as the
bi-metal coils gets hot.

It is a simple mechanism and in that light is rather reliable. The down-side is
when the heater element burns out, the choke will stay on. You can fix this
temporarily by moving the choke setting clockwise, forcing the choke plates
open.
