Would like to hear from the list on the following idea. I own a '74
Spitfire 1500 and a parts car same year/month. My car lived in Florida
for the first 10 years of its life and is relatively rust free, having
been garaged as long as I have owned it. The parts car wishbone frame
is completely rusted out just in front of the differential. In looking
over the situation (not wanting the same to happen to my running car) I
noticed that the frame has drain holes most of the way along it, except
at the lowest point! This means that water can get into the holes and
collect at the lowest point in the frame and thus rust it out from the
inside. I believe this is what happened to the parts car's frame.
Therefore I am considering drilling an additional drain hole at the
lowest point in the frame on each side, but I am concerned that I might
actually be making the problem worse if Triumph used any rust
preventative coatings on the metal (like galvanized steel) of the
frame? Seems like a case of "damned if you do and damned if you don't".
