Any business that doesn't make money off shipping is foolish. It's a tight
line to walk though, too much and you drive customers away. Another common
money maker is to mark up all cheap parts and set a minimum price on all
parts. Then you discount large items. The result is this - People call
around and find the best deal on the big parts. After they choose you they
send an order for many more items. With you're price structure you've made
up most your profit from the discounted expensive part. Businesses can
pick up a surprising amount of profit with these techniques. Doing that
and maintaining proper "turns on inventory" and you have a much greater
chance of having an actual successful business.
