It's that flat metal washer that is on the input shaft just inside the front
bearing. It's function is to deflect the oil that is thrown up by the
laygear back onto the gears that are on the main shaft, providing for the
oiling of the top array.
Therefore, your summary of the oiling system is essentially correct.
