Ron, Terry

The 1980 Spit uses the column-mounted indicator switch - it sounds like the one
you've got, Terry, is the dash-mounted switch.

I replaced my indicator/headlamp dip switch a couple of years ago, bought brand
new from Moss (UK). Just had a look at my catalogues, and it looks like the
UK is different to the US - we have our indicator/headlamp switch on the
right, and the windscreen wiper on the left, while LHD cars are the other way
around. This allows everyone to change gear and indicate simultaneously. One
of my main complaints against modern cars is the manufacturers do not make
different switches for different markets, so we in the minority RHD markets
put up with having our controls the wrong way round - even UK manufacturers
do this now (with the exception of TVR - True Brits!).

Anyway, back to the point. Rimmers list both LH and RH wiper switches
available brand new (although availability may be a different story when you
try to order). Moss (UK) only list the LH version (to fit RHD cars) in their
price list, so they are unlikely to have RH switches. So, you have choices -
try Rimmers for a brand new one (at GBP 37.50 - a fiver more than the switch
for RHD) - Triumph part no. AAU8844. If they can't help, get a scrap one, or
pull a scrap one from a TR7 and straighten, as someone suggested.
Alternatively, if you want shiny new parts or have trouble finding a used
part, you could convert to having your indicator on the right and the wiper
switch on the left, and buy new UK-spec switches for both sides (AAU7994 +
 AAU8843, GBP 49.95 + 32.50 from Rimmers, 44.50 + 35.00 from Moss UK).

Did you only quote the Lucas part number when calling your US dealers? They
would be more likely to have it listed under the Triumph part number
(AAU8844), so it may be worth going back to them, and the other US parts
places, and quoting that number at them.

Good luck!
