Yes you are correct about the AL vibrating. But that could be
cured. I've also used 1/8" plywood, and like you suggest coating
it with something, I used the West System Epoxy. That really works
great. And for something like the piece in the back that has to
bend around, once bent and coated, it will hold it's shape.
