Michael,
the outside diameter of that trim ring is about 2.75". It is not screwed on
but rather is contained in one of the channels in the
rubber receptacle which also holds the glass lens.
The lamp receptacle is attached to the body with 3 posts. The rubber part is
held on by pressure because it is between the receptacle
and the body. The glass lens is inserted into the center of the rubber and the
trim ring when fitted into its channel keeps everything
in place. Works great until the rubber starts to deteriorate.
