The Crane has three modes compared to MSD's two, but you're essentially
correct.  I suppose you'd prefer they change the MSD name to Multiple Spark
When A Miss Would Be Most Noticeable, Big Fat Spark All The Rest Of The
Time, Incorporated?  ;-]

It is actually kind of a mis-representation as well.  It actually only has
multiple sparks at lower revs.  When you get above 3000 the MSD box switches
from a multispark to one big giant fat spark.  Because of the speed involved
with making multiple spark, the technology isn't there to charge the
capacitors in time to make multiple sparks.  I believe the crane works the
same way
