I had the exact same problem with the Weber I had on my car, which I have
since had to replace with a ZS for emissions purposes and better gas
mileage. The air cleaner would knock against the hood and over time put a
really nasty looking bump in the hood. I tightened down the screws on the
air cleaner until the filter element was visibly distorted. This helped
some but was not a cure. This was one of several reasons I don't recommend
a Weber carb for a Spitfire.

I have the jets etc. set up according to Paul Tegler's suggestion. The carb
has
been totally stripped and cleaned.
The engine and exhaust are stock 1500. No air pump.
Everything was working well with the stock carb before the change.
But that is not my biggest concern right now. When I close the hood
(bonnet),
the top of the air cleaner hits the hood. The air cleaner is stock Weber,
about
1 7/8 inches high. Either there has to be a shorter filter assembly or the
carb
has to come off.
What is your experiences with this installation?
