Carter, never had points , it's a '76 so it originally should have had a Opus I 
believe, but it's currenly an old Allison (i.e Crane) that overheats and is 
ready to retire.

Note that points-type ignition fires the spark when
the points open, the coil should be fully charged
(saturated) by that time. So if you have mech points,
that should not be a concern.
