Doug,
There apparently were two sliding shafts used on the Spitfire/GT6 series. I
have recently taken a hard look at both types and can say
for sure that the earlier ones have splines while the later types have those
rollers that apparently act like splines. I don't know
which one performs better, but I can safely say that the earlier splined shaft
doesn't run the risk of losing the rollers when you take
it apart.
