Four more things to check, please pardon me if these are too simple, and my
lack of technically correct terms:
-is the rod that the slave cylinder actuates engaging the "thing that moves
the throw-out/release bearing"? (It is possible to insert the slave with
this rod not actually engaging anything).
-is the pin/bolt that holds the other end of the "thing that moves the
throw-out/release bearing" present?
-is the slave deep enough into the housing?
-are the bolts that secure the slave in the housing tight enough so that the
slave won't move back out?

I did bleed the system and the bleed screw is on top.

Sorry for the obvious one -- but did you bleed the clutch system
after reinstalling it?
Also, is the bleed screw on the slave cylinder on top, or on bottom?
It should be on top, so that air bubbles (which rise to the top of
the fluif) will come out when the system is bled.
