>From what I remember reading, the original redesign (for the 1500) for the
Spitfire engine allowed for well over 1600cc's but the 1493 was settled
upon. I believe that the increase would have come from stroking the engine
to that equivalent to the TR6 however - this is all from my somewhat cloudy
memory.
