How do I Wire the Overdrive in a spit

I have a J-type overdrive that I have in a 1978 Triumph Spitfire and I
am trying to wire the overdrive.  I saw an e-mail about three months ago
on wiring an overdrive.  I have the wiring diagrams but also would like
to know where I am suppose to connect (a) and (b).  My book says a & b
are suppose to connect to ignition/starter switch - connectors 1 & 2.
