Dave,
Off the top of my head (so don't take this as gospel).....
The cross-bar of the T you mention is orientated vertically. The top part of it
connects to the heater (maybe this answers the first question?) and the bottom
part I'm not 100% sure, but I think it connects to a metal pipe which is bolted
onto the water pump, and runs alongside the engine underneath the manifolds.

Spitlisters:
I'm in the process of replacing the heater hoses on
my 1977 Spit. My question is,On the firewall,the inlet
to the heater core,is it the side that has the heater
control? If so which hose from the water pump connect
to it. I'm also putting on dual SU's. The intake
manifold has a H.H. connection that comes to a *T* and
I have only one possible place for it to go. Are there
any sites that show this.
