I just thought I would let everyone know that I just solved a problem that I
had noticed (or at least think I have solved it...) The front shock mounts
in my well worn 76 spit were deformed when I took the old shocks out. It
had been bent and flexed upward due to the continual pressures applied to
it.
So, to eliminate this problem, I created a set of heavy reinforcements to
bolt into the mounting point before installing my new Spax dampers with
heavy springs. I machined some 1/4" steel in a pattern to fit the opening
in hopes of limiting flex in this area and firming up the suspension.
I thought I would through this out before I had them completely installed
incase anyone wanted me to make them a template or tracing to recreate a set
of these gussets.
Let me know if this would be of use to anyone,
jim
