Hi all!
I just wanted to add my two cents about this eBay business: The key
word is RESEARCH!! Since I have acquired my '63 Dodge Custom 880 in
December, I have found a good bit of NOS and dealer brochures and stuff
for it on eBay, some a good deal, some not.
When I see a part I think I will need, I call NAPA and see if they carry
it and how much it is. I will therefore bid up to about half to
two-thirds of the local cost, including postage. A deal is not a deal
if you pay the same as you can get it local for, then add postage and
cost of a money order on top of it. Keep a list of everything you
need/want and the retail prices you have researched right there at the
computer.
If the part is not available at any of the parts houses I call, then it
becomes a situation of "How much do I need this/how much does it mean to
me?" I set a price on paper in front of the monitor, and do not go over
it, no matter how furious the bidding gets in the last few minutes. If
there's one out there, there are bound to be more later.
I just got a carb rebuild kit yesterday for the Dodge carburetor (here
is the LBC content -- it's a STROMBERG!!! :) for $2.00 -- NAPA's list
price is $19.99, an unobtainable tie rod end for under $10, ball joints
for a fraction of the retail cost, etc.
Just remember to look up sources BEFORE you commit to bidding! Nothing
sucks more than getting drawn into the final-moment bidding frenzy and
coming out the winner... paying $14.73 more than you could have gone
around the corner and paid for it. Research, research, research.
Other than that -- ain't eBay GREAT!!!! I am amazed at what I can find
there. We have needed this for a long time.
Thanks for reading along!
Keep Triumphing,
Susan :)
