I meant to reply to the whole list but inadvertently sent it to Brett only.
There has been several questions about putting new seats in Spitfires, so I
thought this might be of general interest to some folks on the list.

Howdy all.

I looked for seat recovering kits and new foam/horse hair pads for my Mk I
with no luck. So I decided to bite the bullet and sprang for a pair of
Miata seats. They are *MUCH* more comfortable than the old worn-out seats
that came with the car. I've also heard that seats from a Pontiac Fiero
will fit but have never seen it done.

One drawback that I found is that they sit a little higher, perhaps 1-1/2 to
2 inches. Not a problem if your somewhat "vertically challenged". I'm over
6-ft and was already bumping my head on the hood. Guess I'll be leaning
waaaayyy back.

Another thing to note is that they are a tight fit. The pivot where the
seat reclines grazes the door post while the other side of the seat is
against the carpet on the tunnel cover. It works, but it is a snug fit.

Anyway, the site requested is:
http://www.westpro.com/Beast_Folder/Beast_Tech/Seat_Talk.html

I strayed from his plans a little by forming the brackets to bolt under the
seat rather than in front and behind. Something like

               *
         *
    *
    *
    ************

Also, he specifies a "3/4-inch" bolt. That's the head size. The actual
bolt size is 1/2-inch. Last but not least, I'd recommend using grade 8
bolts, nuts, etc. all around.
