Howdy.
I just re-subscribed after a three year hiatus. (Funny, those dates seem to
coincide with my car going into storage and the recent decision to finish
this project...)
One of the previous owners was so kind as to disassemble the pressure plate
assembly and now the clutch doesn't release until the pedal is literally on
the floor. Later cars had the diaphragm spring pressure plate installed and
there is no adjustment for them; however, the MK I came with a coil-spring &
lever arrangement that has a nut and retainer at each of the three lever
fulcrums allowing the throw out plate to be moved in or out. Since the
engine & trans are out while the body is getting painted, now is a
convenient time to fix this problem before I burnout another clutch.
So, what I'm looking for is distance of the pressure plate throw out pad to
some reference such as the flywheel surface or rear engine plate. The plate
and springs seem to be in almost brand-new condition (other than needing
adjustment) and I'd rather spend the $90 elsewhere if I can.
Thanks in advance
