I have the Pertronix Ignitor installed on my Spit. It definitely is an
improvement in starting and at idle. I really like the fact that everything fits
under the cap and can be re-fitted to standard ignition at any time. That is
really great when you are stranded hundreds of miles away from home. Keep the
old parts in the trunk and you will always have a backup.
Part of the installation process is to re-time the engine after the new
components are installed. I was surprised by how much the distributor had to be
moved. I doubt that I would be able to get it back to the original position if I
had to re-fit the standard parts back in. I would suggest marking the original
position (scribe a line on disty and block?) so that you can be a lot closer to
the correct timing.
BTW, I also installed Ignitors in my 35' Chris Craft. Same result...better
starts and smoother low speed operation.
