I had a similar problem with my wipers. I found it to be a problem in the wiper
motor gear housing, there is a raised section (like a cam) on the gear that
raises a cut-out switch in time with the wiper's park position. After twenty odd
years the switch had etched a groove in the cam (made from plastic) to such an
extent that it was not raising the switch enough to cut the power. To fix it I
added a shim underneath the cam, thus, raising it enough to eliminate the effect
of the groove. I'll have to remember to do it again in another twenty years
though :-)

This might be your problem.

PS. As a temporary fix I disconnected the wire for the park switch from the
dashboard switch and got quite good at timing when I killed the wipers. For some
reason my wife found this unacceptable.

The car is an unfinished restoration with excellent body/frame (all mechs
running, but electrics all over the place!). To that end, anyone have an
idea why the wiper switch will not turn off? We can get low or high, but
not off (except when the switch is hanging between the 2 positions)! And
is there a secret to removing the ignition key from the lock (already tried
the push and turn anti-clockwise without effect)?
