I have a rhythmic "thumping, clicking" sound in the rear somewhere. It is
related to tire rotation. Meaning... the faster I drive the faster the
clicking sound gets. It is loudest when driving on a flat or coasting. It
becomes a fair amount quieter when accelerating or under load on a steep
hill. It sounds like a U-joint. But I cant find play in any U-joints. I
brought it in for an inspection and had my mechanic check it out. All three
guys in the garage drove the car. They cant tell where it's coming from. I
have to do a small frame weld and go back for the inspection sticker when
they will look into it a little deeper. They want to examine the split drive
shaft closer and also suggest that perhaps the clicking is something within
the diff that translates it's noise through the drive shafts. The clicking
is sort of a "heavy" clicking but not quite a "thunking" sound. (pretty lame
description huh?). Anybody got any ideas of what to look at other than
U-joints?
Many thanks, as usual!
