I finally got my dual SU HS2 working correctly on my 78 Spit three years
after I converted from the single ZS set up. The problem was the jets,
the ones came with my rebuild kit was not correct for the Spit, they were
black and the size was .01" instead of .009". I give in this year in and
bought the correct jets (was getting tire of constantly have to adjust
them). Once the new jet were in and adjusted the car idled at lower
RPM (~700-800) and smoother. The only draw back is, it now does not
have as good pick up as before (even with the now AN needle). I guess is
because with the .009" jets it is not sucking in loads of fuel like it was
doing with the .01" jet. I'm also hoping to see an improvement in mileage,
I was getting arounf 18-20 miles to a gallon.
But, it is nice to have the car running smoothly and sounding alot better.
Which brings me to the a new problem. With the car running better and
less noisy I now notice a knocking noise from the engine. It is there
when the car first starts up and sometime I can hear it while accelerating.
Is it a problem with the main or rod bearings, and can it being replace
without taking the engine out?
PS: The parts number for the correct jets are:
AUD9104 (front)
AUD9103 (rear)
