Oil sump gasket

I read in a helpful resource site that I could change the sump gasket with
the motor in the car if the crank was turned correctly.  Has anyone ever
done this?  What type of trouble should I expect?

Tremendously helpful people, you spitophiles are!  I can't believe the time
