it's been awhile... and honestly I'm not sure if
it was on a spit I did it..or some other car...
but I usually hook the spring to both shoes first
then put them in place, spring end first, then use the
leverage of the other end to stretch the spring
and place the bottom ends of the shoes in place.
then complete the assembly.
