Scott -
How did you hear me snickering all the way over there?? I have done similar
things, but I try not to tell on myself! :)
The 17/35A Lucas fuses are called "35A" (hence the Haynes saying to use 35A)
They really are a 17amp fuse. Go figure. I guess Lucas was just trying to
confuse us once again. I believe it is similar to a BUSS Fast Blow 20A. I
would NOT use a BUSS 35A. If you have a large resistive short, the wire may
go before the 35A fuse. It is always a good idea to use the smallest fuse
that you have no problems with. Fuses are to protect the wire.
After you fix the problem, if you want an "original" fuse, I have a few
around here somewhere, I will send you one!
The spares are in the same fuse box, just above the 1st Fuse and just below
the 3rd.

Subject: Spit fuses
Hi Spitphiles. Just blew my first fuse (re-wiring the map light... don't
really know what I grounded on, but the sparks were sure pretty). Hobbs is
a
77 Spit 1500, so easily found the fuse box on the driver-side bulkhead.
Bottom fuse had blown. Interestingly, it's a genuine Lucas fuse, and has a
piece of paper in with the fried filament that says "17 amps continuous
LUCAS
35A".
The only fuse I had handy was a Buss SFE20. What fuse should I put in
there?
Haynes manual says all 3 should be 35 amp.
Also, Haynes says there should be 2 spares. I didn't see any. Where are
the
spares stored? Thanks, Scott (& Hobbs- 77 Spitfire, daily driver)
PS. Stop laughing, Bill M.!!
