Hi Spitphiles.
Got a chance to drive Hobbs for the first time in about 10 days, and
found my combination switch has broken and headlights (bright beams) now come
on occasionally by themselves. About to tear into the sucker and see if I
can fix it. With my lack of mechanical ability, odds are pretty poor.
Here's my question, which has nothing to do with the above: For
about a month I've noticed that when the engine is cold the car sort of
hesitates on acceleration in 1st & 2nd gear. Today it got quite a bit worse.
As the car warmed up and I took it into the power band, it dimished and
eventually disappeared (as it has in the past). I've also noticed that the
idle, once the car has warmed up, is about 800 rpm rather than its usual 1000
rpm. There is oil in the ZS carb, but I'm not sure how to check how much is
supposed to be there (like I said, I'm a mechanical moron).
Soooo.... anyone else have this same problem? Is it carburation, or
some other gremlin? Note: it was professionally tuned up less than 1500
miles ago, and clutch was professionally rebuilt about 300 miles ago (my
mechanic is so glad I bought a Triumph!)
Final note: Oil pressure is quite high (55-75psi) when cold & when
under load, but at the 800 rpm idle at stop lights it drops to about 15psi.
Is this ok?
Thanks for any insight you can offer. This is a great list.
