The reason for the lack of logic is that you have the data incorrect. 
Here's the real story:

Joe has "2" Spitfires
Joe has 6 Spitfire doors
Spitfires have 2 doors
Joe has 2 doors that have been gutted for the race car project.
The remaining 2 doors are kept intact in case the race car desires to be
put back to stock someday.

Now, doesn't that make perfect sense?  8^)
