Brad - when I got my Spitfire the adaptors were installed using the
original wheel lug nuts. I wouldn't necessarily take this as the 'right
way' based on some of the other stuff the PO did but it is one data-point.
It has been kind of useful since I use a steel wheel as a spare so don't
have to carry around an extra set of lug nuts.

Subject: wire wheel lug nuts
Listers,
I'm finally getting ready to install some wire wheels on my spitfire that
I picked up last year. My question is, do I use the same lug nuts that
were used with the steel disc wheels or does it require different style
lug nuts. My TR4 requires different lug nuts for wire wheels vs steel
disc wheels.
TIA
