after market radios

I'll keep this one short.  I'm about to put in a new stereo system in 
the spit and I was wondering if anyone has hooked up an amp with the 
lucas alternator.  My car's idle speed changes if I turn the lights on 
so I can't help but wonder what hooking up a small 2 channel amp would 
do.
