I had a similar problem with a seal in the bellhousing a while ago. I
ended up taking the bellhousing to a machine shop and they actually
lathed the metal part of the seal until they could twist it off. (This
was after he yanked the rubber parts of the seal off with a pair of
pliers).
Cheap ($5, if I recall), fast, and no damage to the bellhousing.
