Okay, I know I'm not an idiot, but for the life of me I can't find the
idle adjustment screw on my carb ('79) spit. The car idles at about 500
to 600 rpm once warmed up and it feels a little shaky. I know the
manual says the idle should be more like 800 - 850. I've tried to
figure out which screw it is by looking at parts manuals but that's no
help. I found the idle air damper screw on the forward side of the
carb, but I don't think that's the right screw. Help!!!

On a related subject...often times when I start up the car it wants to
idle immediately at the slow speed idle (which like I said is too low
right now) so the car will stall when cold unless I hold my foot on the
gas to keep the idle up. Sometimes it will start at the high speed idle
which is around 1500 -2000 rpm so I know that's not completely disabled.
I know that how you pump the gas pedal has something to do with
activating and deactivating the automatic choke. The manual says when
starting the car to pump the pedal slowly once then start the car
without putting your foot on the pedal. Once the car is a little warmed
up then pop the gas pedal to deactivate the auto choke. My car won't
start cold unless I put my foot on the gas a little while I'm cranking
the engine. Aside from the low idle, once it's warmed up it runs great
(used to run rough for quite awhile then I found the mixture was too
rich so that's corrected now). Is there some way that I should be
starting the car? I've seen kits for converting to a manual choke.
Would that be helpful?

I'm about to give my carb a name, but I won't repeat it in print.
